Women's Imaging Center
Built and equipped through community generosity, the SLWR Women's Imaging Center offers state-of-the-art digital mammography in a healing environment.
In August of 2009, a new comprehensive Women’s Imaging Center—featuring state-of-the-art digital mammography—opened to provide women in our community access to the most advanced technology available. The 2,500 square-foot Center, located in the Physician Office Building adjacent to the hospital, includes screening and diagnostic mammography, breast and pelvic ultrasound, and bone density testing in a wellness-focused environment.
The cornerstone of this project is our new, state-of-the-art digital mammography technology. The superior capabilities of digital mammography offers improved accuracy of diagnosis. Studies have shown that the diagnosis of early stage breast cancer increased 26% when performed with state-of-the-art digital mammography versus analog technology. For some patients, digital technology also reduces the need for repeat films, which in turn reduces the amount of radiation exposure a woman receives.
