Funding Priorities

securing the future of emergency medicine

The Foundation is committed to raising $10 million to build an Emergency Services Endowment. This endowment will ensure that the hospital continues to have all board certified emergency physicians and expert emergency nurses staffing our Emergency Department, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

This level of expertise is extremely rare for a hospital of our size.

St. Luke’s Wood River is the only hospital of its size in Idaho to provide this level of service.  We believe this level of service is essential in Blaine County given the remote location of our community and community expectations that we provide the best possible care for those experiencing medical emergencies

Every year, it costs our hospital approximately $650,000 to operate the Emergency Department at the present level of excellence. Because of the seasonal nature of our resort community, where the volume of patients fluctuates dramatically, our patient volumes do not reach the critical mass necessary to offset the cost of providing high quality, 24-hour emergency services.  Many hospitals in a community of our size would not, or could not, dedicate such a significant amount of their resources to one department.

Toward this end, our Foundation is focusing a major portion of its fundraising efforts on building the Emergency Department Endowment that will pay to sustain our community’s state-of-the-art emergency service network in perpetuity.
